About This Programme

Primary Shapes, the uncompromising local indie group has enchanted fans with its captivating electronic tunes and live performance with stunning audio-visual effects since 1999.

Commissioned by the Festival, the music duo, Tang Chi-wai (singer-composer) and Yuen Cheuk-wa (sound designer-writer) will team up with a string quartet and a breed of adventurous designers and artists to create a theatrical music concert, inspired by Douglas Hofstadter’s Pulitzer prize-winning book on mathematics, graphic art and music Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid. They will take you through an avant-pop musical bifurcations of the intangibles – sound, light and space.

Tang Chi-wai will share with the audience his creative journey in contemporary music: writing theme songs on soap dramas, becoming a karaoke hit, and playing his avant-garde pop music in Primary Shapes. Along with his talk, Chi-wai will perform with his band.
