The Shanghai Peking Opera Troupe's distinguished performers will present its acclaimed opera, The Disinterested Governor Yu Chenglong.
The story is about a newly appointed governor in the Fujian province. In charge of handling crimes, he discovers that the former official wrongly imprisoned thousands of innocent civilians. Governor Yu retries many cases, using persistence to overcome the bureaucratic obstacles. In the end, his fairness brings justice and prosperity to the people of Fujian.
This production received four major national prizes and was a great hit at the 2004 China Peking Opera Art Festival. Founded in 1955 by one of the four Beijing opera masters, Zhou Xinfang, the Troupe has developed a unique artistic style and earned a reputation for powerful performances.
